All of our retired hounds have a story to tell.

We choose to rehome or have our hounds live out their retirement years in comfort and care with other hounds- a lifestyle for which they have been bred and to which they are accustomed.

Rocky Fork Headley Hunt incurs the expenses of neutering when a hound is retired. Monthly costs per hound have increased annually by approximately 18%. 2022 monthly average expenses per hound are now $135 a month and include food, medications, veterinary care, and kennel costs (e.g. utilities, etc.)

  • Retired since drafted from Chagrin Valley Hunt, Acland is a grand old gentleman who brings a smile to all of our faces as he lumbers down to the collecting ring as a mentor to our young entries. He is an affectionate sweetheart! He is being fostered by a member of our staff.

***UPDATE Acland has been adopted by one of our staff members! She reports that he was easy to housebreak despite a life of being kenneled, and he is a joy to have around.

  • Pickle hunted well for several seasons, but she has unfortunately strained a tendon in her left front leg that no longer can tolerate the stress of hunting. She receives daily anti-inflammatory medication daily. She has an endearing habit of sitting in front of any person whom she suspects has treats! Pickle is very affectionate, and we have always thought that she would make a fine sofa ornament.

  • Rosebud has been adopted by one of our masters, Sally Crane, and she lives a life of luxury within earshot of her former compatriots at the kennels. We truly miss seeing her cheerful face when we walk out the hounds, but for health reasons we are so happy that her life will continue with Sally’s dogs as her new friends.
